Viewing: 17, 18, 19, 20 November 2017 (10 am / 1 pm – 2 / 6 pm)

Auction: 22, 23 November 2017

Among the unusual and curious objects on auction we indicate the collection of vanity cases and  compacts of various styles and eras, amassed over a period of about 15 years by a dedicated collector who scoured the markets of the world, especially in America, where the custom of carrying compact powder and makeup cases has never gone out of fashion.
The collection is varied and whimsical, with 528 items subdivided in 128 lots, consisting of precious face powder boxes from the end of the 1800s, alternating with extremely elegant and lavish vanity cases containing lipstick holders, combs, mirrors and even a coin slot should one need to call a taxi, a space for a cigarette lighter and even, in the most complete kits, a holder for an eyelash elongator.
One of the most interesting powder cases are the 12+1 Estée Lauder models, designed by Erté, one of the leading exponents of the Art Deco movement, each one dedicated to a zodiacal sign and all equipped with the original powder refills and pouches.
Worthy of note due to their uniqueness are the powder cases in the shape of a US ARMY cap, given by American soldiers when they were sent to fight overseas as a “parting gift” for their girlfriends, and the charmingly frivolous debutante powder cases with a chain and a ring, to be worn around one’s finger. These curious powder compacts and sumptuous vanity cases will be offered at interesting prices (€20 and up), easily affordable for both collectors and vintage aficionados.
