Palazzo Crivelli - Via Pontaccio 12, Milan

Viewing: 7, 8, 9 April 2017 (10 am / 1 pm – 2,30/6,30 pm)

Auction: 13,14 April 2017

The sale of April 13-14 in which more than 800 lots will go under the hammer, is characterized by its vast selection of art objects and furniture, silver and antique paintings of exceptional quality and new provenance. Particularly interesting and curious is the Lombard collection of walking sticks, with handles made of precious materials or inlaid in coral, ivory or even Shibayama, with clock handle or even Meissen porcelain.

Among the works of art we wish to highlight a couple of French bronze sconces signed Henry Dasson and dated 1887 and two Piedmontese chinoiserie wooden panels of large dimensions (300x132).

In the session dedicated to silver, an outstanding tea service complete with samovar, teapot, coffee pot, milk jug, sugar bowl and 12 silver and crystal cups, with original case, dated Paris 1852-79. The service by silversmith Désiré Mousset and marked Morel & C.ie is estimated € 45.000 / 50.000.

Present also numerous and important Old Master paintings. We wish to point out the Portrait of Marquess Gaetano Giovanni Maria Cambiaso by Anton von Maron (1733 -1808) painting which is present in the inventory of the works of the Palazzo Cambiaso in Genoa, property of Marquess Giambattista and Caterina Cambiaso and exhibited at Palazzo Ducale in Genoa in 1999 with the attribution to Von Maron; among the paintings with biblical / religious subjects worthy of mention are the Martyrdom of St. Erasmus by Orazio Borgianni (Rome, 1574-1616) and Abraham's Journey to Canaan by Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione, also known as Grechetto, and assistants (Genova 1609 - Mantua 1664) unknown until today and of undoubted pictorial and stylistic interest.

Much of the furniture in the auction comes from a villa on Lake Como owned by the Taddei family who moved here with their belongings in the 70s, after leaving Paris.

It is said that the villa, built in the early '900 by a known family of the silk industry, was destined to a member of the family who was then botrothed to the famous actress Alida Valli with whom he might have lived there had he not tragically perished in the skies of Tobruk in 1941.
