A fine and rare mother-of-pearl and tortoiseshell gilt lacquer twelve-panel screen, depicting a Qing official on a hunting expedition. China, Kangxi Period (1662-1722) (197 cm high, 425 cm long) Property from an ancient Italian noble family made in the style called Coromandel, which is obtained from carving the lacquered surface to create a background pattern. In this case, however, the figures are executed with the more expensive and complicated inlay of fragments of mother-of-pearl and tortoiseshell.
