LALANDE, Jérôme (1732-1807) - Voyage d’un françois en Italie fait dans les années 1765-1766. Venice, Paris: Desaint, 1769. A rare edition which was never auctioned before complete with the atlas. The account of the years 1765 and 1766 was appreciated by Chateaubriand “Le voyage de Lalande est encore ce qu’il y de mieux et de plus exact sur la Rome des arts et sur la Rome antique”. The work, in addition to describing the geographical, historical and economical aspects, also decribes in great detail some of the gastronomic curiosities. Tom 9 of the 1785 edition is sold together with the other volumes and has a chapter dedicated to Italian cheeses. 8 volumes in 8vo (166 x 98mm); atlas in 4to (272 x 223mm). Atlas with 23 plates, several folding our double-page (occasional light staining and browning). Contemporary calf, titles and decorations in gilt on spine label, red edges, silk bookmarks; atlas in contemporary calf decorated in gilt (some rubbing).
