MARANA, Giovanni Paolo (1642 - 1693) - L'espion dans les cours des princes chretiens. Colony: Erasme Kinkius, 1699-1700. Semi-serious and sometimes even satyrical account of Europe at the end of the 17th century written by the fictionary Ottoman spy "Mahmut". A nice epistolar fiction that was very popular among its contemporaries which saw a continuation 10 years later by Daniel Defoe with his "Continuation of Turkish Letters Writ by a Turkish Spy in Paris". 12mo (151 x 90mm). Portraits of the author at frontispieces (lacking in volume VI), title printed in red and black, 27 plates, some folding (browning and occasional staining). Contemporary calf with gilt decorations and titles to spines, marbled speckled edges. (6)
