Third edition in Latin, the first of a series of pocket size editions which popularised emblem literature in the low countries. The first edition in 8vo of the same work was published just five years earlier in Antwerp. It includes an early woodcut depiction of the game of tennis. 16mo (114 x 80mm). Text in Latin with Greek inserts, printer's device on title, portrait of the author on verso and portrait of Emperor Maximilian II, 221 woodcuts (lacking the coins engravings in gatherings T, U and X, some light waterstaining, mainly at bottom margin, light browning).
