[BREVIARIO] - Breviarium romanum..Pii V Pont. Max. Rome: Paolo Manuzio, 1568. The true first edition of the roman breviary, the first uniformed text for the liturgy of the Hours. During the Council of Trent (1545-1563) it was decided to set a common text for the catholic church against the new protestant churches. The task was assigned directly to a vatican commision directed by pope Pio V that published this edition. Folio (350 x 250mm). Engraved vignette on titlee, text printed in red and black, scores at the end of the volume (waterstains to lower margin, some restaurations). Contemporary calf with blindstamp decorationss (some wear and chipping).
