VASI, Giuseppe Agostino (1710-1782) - [Mariano VASI (1744-1820)] - Raccolta delle più belle vedute antiche, e moderne di Roma disegnate ed incise secondo lo stato presente. Rome: presso l'autore, 1786. A copy with good impression and 195 plates of this work on Rome by Vasi. This edition was issued by Vasi's son Mariano after his father's death, comprising a selection of views from the earlier work and some new plates, but without the text. As RIBA notes, individual copies differ quite widely, appearing ""to have been made up with whatever prints were to hand, in addition to the numbered core of the work (which was itself somewhat fluid)"". 2 volumes, oblong folio (295 x 415mm). Letterpress title (only in vol.I) with etched vignette within double-rule borders, vol. I with 94 plates (of 100, lacking plates 2, 9, 20, 26, 27, 28, 81, 83, 41, 96, 98, but with two different plates numbered 21 and two numbered 40, and 3 unnumbered plates); vol. II with 101 plates (of 100 including 100 numbered plates and one unnumbered). (Small tear to inner margin of plate 21bis, few occasional light stains). Contemporary half calf over marbled boards (joints and spine with some wear). Due to the different compositions of the work the volumes are sold as described and not subject to return). (2)
