LECLERC, Daniel (1652-1728) - MANGETUS, Jacob J. (1652-1742) - Bibliotheca anatomica sive recens in anatomia inventorum thesaurus. Geneva: Chouet e Ritter, 1699. This edition contains significant additions and revisions to this "extraordinary storehouse of seventeenth century anatomical works" (Russell 524), which was first published in 1685. The impressive collection, with its striking engraved title and 124 plates based on original sources, gathers in a single work the most important discoveries of the seventeenth century, the period which laid the foundation for modern anatomy and physiology. Among the many contributions are the works of Harvey, Lower, Malpighi, Swammerdam, Vieussens and Willis. 2 volumes, folio (360 x 215mm). Half-title in vol. I., titles in red and black with large engraved vignettes, 120 engraved numbered plates, some folding and others double-page, 4 unnumbered plates, woodcut headpieces and initials, illustrations in text (wormtracks causing some loss of text, heavier in vol. I, occasional browning, soiling and spotting, gathering 3H in vol. II with some leaves with same signature but different text). Contemporary calf, spines decorated in gilt, red speckled edges (some wormholes and wear). Due to the heavy worming and to the numerous plates, numbered and unnumbered, the volume is sold as viewed and not subject to return. (2)
