A Richly illustrated and handsomely printed edition on large paper. The majority of the plates after Cochin, whose fine contribution towards this publication was never matched in his later work. Ray calls this edition ‘the model for the sumptuous rococo volumes of the ensuing twenty-five years’. 2 volumes, 8vo (226 x 144mm). Engraved frontispieces and title pages by Le Mire after Eisen, 6 full page engraved plates including 5 after Cochin and one after Le Lorrain, engraved vignette headpieces and tailpieces (light browning and spotting). Contemporary calf richly decorated in gilt (spine ends ligtly chipped, light rubbing). Provenance: French early annotations on endpapers. (2)
