Geneva: Pellet, 1780.   A renown work against colonialism and slavery, published in more temperate tones 10 years before and in this radically revised edition to the point to force Raynal himself to flee and of being condemned to the stake in the public square by the Parliament of Paris. The tomes of the work are accompanied by the geographic atlas in good conditions but in a slightly different binding.   10 volumes and atlas, 8vo (190 x 120mm). Half-title, authors portrait as frontispiece in volume I, frontispieces in the other volumes (some browning). Contemporary calf, gilt spines, titles on spine label, red edges, marbled endpapers (light wear). Atlas complete of 50 plates (49 + 17 bis), double-page and one folding, 23 tables, some folding.
