The beautifully engraved plates display a variety of crustaceans, shells, minerals, gems, corals and fossils found in the waters surrounding Ambon Island, where the author was in the service of the Dutch East India Company from 1653 until his death in 1702.   Folio (395 x 257mm). Half-title, engraved frontispiece, title in red and black with engraved vignette, full-page portrait of the author, 60 numbered engraved plates, large engraved head-and-tail pieces, woodcut initials (occasional light soiling). Contemporary speckled calf, gilt spine, speckled edges (joints starting, lightly rubbed and with some minor restorations).
