Piero Portaluppi ( Milano  1888 - Milano  1967 )

"La stella di neve 1934. Corsa d'auto e gara di sci" Trophy cup. Execution by Sorini, Italy, 1934. Black marble, silvered metal, shaped and hammered, ground and etched crystal on one side. The trophy reproduces in schematic miniature, in the typical style of Piero Portaluppi, the driveway of the Val Formazza, the Hotel and the Toce waterfall. (23x32.6x26.5 cm.) (slight defects) The hotel was restored and enlarged by the Milanese architect between 1925 and 1929. The intervention was part of an industrial and tourist development plan of which Piero Portaluppi was the protagonist with the Girola company and the industrialist Ettore Conti. Later the plan had foreseen at the San Giacomo Pass, the construction of the Wagristoratore restaurant (1929-30, now destroyed), reachable by car and built using two railway carriages.
