VERDI, Giuseppe (1813-1901) - Lettera ad Antonio Ghislanzoni sulla Prima di Aida al teatro dell'opera del Cairo. Tenuta di Sant'Agata: 1 Settembre 1871. Important manuscript letter addressed to Antonio Ghislanzoni, librettista of Aida, in which Verdi asks that instructions for the "mise en scène" be sent to Paul Draneth Bey, director of the Cairo theater where the premiere of Verdi's masterpiece was held on 24 December 1871. The performance was in fact strongly requested by Ismail Pascià, khedivê of Egypt and a passionate music addict who wanted a work representative of his kingdom. Verdi, perhaps worried about the organization of a premiere far from his supervision, closes the letter with these words: "credo di non aver bisogno di aggiungere parola trattandosi della riuscita di un nostro lavoro". (210 x 130mm). Letter on bifolium (some foxing) [TOGETHER WITH:] FOCOSI, Roberto. Lithographic portrait of Verdi. Milan: Lucca around 1840-50.
