The Italian translation by Gabriele Simeoni, accompanied by a very wide illustrative apparatus, of this treatise by Guillaume du Choul, French antiquarian, humanist, numismatist and collector, on the military and religious customs of the Romans, which appeared for the first time in 1555 by the same publisher. The numerous woodcut illustrations are attributed by Baudrier to Pierre Eskrich. 2 parts in one volume, 4to (217 x 163mm). Titles with printer's device, the author's coat of arms within an architectural woodcut frame on the versos, a folded plate, numerous half and full page woodcuts, headpieces and woodcut initials (some soiling and light browning, folding plate reinforced on verso). 18th-century speckled calf decorated in gilt, gilt title on spine, red speckled edges (rebacked preserving part of the original spine, modern endpapers); preserved in a marbled paper modern box. Provenance: round red stamp with stylized letters inside including C and S on title's verso.
