First edition of the beautiful atlas of hieroglyphs by Champollion, realized after the systematic survey of Egypt and Nubia in 1828-1829. 4 volumes, elephant folio (ca. 715 x 540mm). Title and cromolitographic title in vol. I, half-title and title in voll. II-IV, 504 litographic plates (of 511, as in the index), of wich 44 coloured (lacking plates 155, 168, 179, 224, 296, 426, 429, spotting and browning, heavily browned plates 407/418, stains). Binding with imitation leather spine and marbled boards (rubbed, some wear to spines, anterior board unplugged in vol. I). Because of the complex publication history, bibliographies do not agree on the number of plates in a complete set, so the volumes are sold not subject to return. (4)
