Colmar: Bartholomé Grieninger, 1547-41.   First complete edition of the German translation of Plutarch’s Vitae Parallelae by Hieronymus Boner (ca. 1490-1556) whom is remembered for having translated the works of numerous classic authors. A partial translation (only 8 of 46 lives of the Saints), was published already in 1534 in Augsburg.   2 parts in one volume, folio (323 x 202mm). Title in red and black with woodcut vignette and illustration, large illustrations in text showing battles and celebrations (first and final leaves a bit frayed at outer margin with some light worming, occasional light browning and scattered staining, without final blank). Contemporary blindstamped pigskin dated 1549, with original metal clasps (renewed endpapers)
