PONTANO, Giovanni Gioviano (1429-1503) - Quae in hoc enchyridio contineantur Urania seu de stellis libri quinque [CON:] Amorum libri duo. Florence: Giunta, 1514.   First Giunta edition of these two works by Pontano rarely found together and in matching bindings. Vol. I, first printed by Aldo Manuzio in 1505, includes his De Urania, which deals with the heavenly bodies, their influence on the earth and their supposed influence on human affairs. The Meteora is a sort of sequel, dealing with the weather. De Hortis Hesperidum deals with the growing of oranges and lemons. The poems were edited by Mariano Tucci. The second is about love.   2 volumes, 8vo (160 x 95mm). Printer's devices at end, woodcut initials (a small clean tear on title of vol. II, occasional light stains). 18th-century calf, gilt spines, marbled endpapers, yellow edges (chipping to lower edges of spine in vol. I and vol.II restored).
