GRYNAEUS, Simon (1493-1541) e Johann HUTTICH (1480?-1544); Balthasar LYDIUS (editore) - Novus orbis. Id est, navigationes primae in Americam.. Ophyra. Rotterdam: Johann Leonardus Berewons, 1616. A selection of writings relating to America, so far published in Novus orbis regionum ac insularum, a collection edited by Simon Graynaeus from materials collected by Johann Huttich. It starts with a chapter dedicated to Cristopher Columbus, followed by another on the navigations of Amerigo Vespucci. In the second part is the addition dedicated to the region of "Ophyra" by Casparis Varrerii Lusitani which contains Barreiro's treatise on the geographical position of the country of Ofir: not in America, but in Asia. 2 parts in one volume, 8vo (156 x 95mm). Woodcut device on titles, initials and woodcut headpieces (a little browned, occasional staining). 19th-century calf, gilt title on spine and blue edges (extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: Gymnasium zu Greifewald? (part of a German stamp on title) - a few early annotations.
