[CROCE, Giulio Cesare (1550-1609)] - Bertoldo con Bertoldino e Cacasenno in ottava rima. Bologna: Lelio dalla Volpe, 1736. First edition of the illustrated book considered the most beautiful that Bologna produced throughout the eighteenth century, the first in which the printer uses the fox as a printer's device and where for the first time the engravings by Giuseppe Maria Crespi are published. 4to (265 x 200mm). Engraved frontispiece, engraved printer's device on title, engraved portrait of the author illustrated in text, 20 full-page plates by Lodovico Mattioli da Crespi, engraved tailpieces, folding tables (some wear and restorations to the first leaves, occasional staining, small wormholes in the lower margin of the final leaves). 19th-century decorated paper boards backed in green leather decorated in gilt and blind (extremities rubbed).
