Venice: Gabriel Giolito de' Ferrari, 1563-62.   A good copy of this Italian translation of the Greek classic which is part of the "most important publishing enterprise conceived by Porcacchi for Giolito" (Treccani), the "Collana historica, Anelli", a project that "intended to offer a selection of ancient historians in vulgar quality versions, meant for an audience eager to approach the classics, but lacking the necessary training to read them in a philological edition".   8vo (202 x 146mm). Printer's device on title and at end, headpieces and woodcut initials (some staining and minimal worming). 18th-century calf decorated in gilt on the plates and on spine, speckled edges (minimal wear).
