Basel: Herwagen, 1531.   Editio princeps del Περί των του δεσπότου Ιουστινιανού κτισμάτων, known in Latin as "De Aedificiis", the work of Procopius dedicated to the architectural and engineering works of Emperor Justinian, one of the ancient reference texts for the study of Byzantine architecture. The work is to be found as appendix to the "De Rebus Gothorum" and opens with the description of the basilica of Santa Sofia, the most shining architectural example of the Byzantine Empire.   Folio (295 x 200mm). Printer's device on title page colophon, woodcut initials (spotting). 19th-century binding with textile spine with gilt title. Provenance: Bibliothecae & Conventus S. Himerij (stamp on title of the library of the first Convent of the Discalced Reformed Carmelites, probably in Cremona; suppressed in 1805).
