D'AMBRA, Francesco (1499-1558) - I Bernardi comedia di M. Francesco d'Ambra cittadino, & accademico fiorentino. Florence: I giunti, 1564.   D'Ambra was a successful playwright in Renaissance Florence and, probably thanks to the support of Cosimo I, he gained one of the most important positions in the Accademia degli Umidi, later Fiorentina: adviser, censor and consul. It was to Cosimo I that he dedicated this second work of his, I Bernardi, where the Prince is defined as "giusto" (Treccani). The dedication is dated 1563 and although the title contains "nuovamente data in luce" it would appear to be the first edition (SBN).   8vo (145 x 95mm). Printer's device on title, woodcut initials (occasional light spotting mainly in the margins). Modern boards and manuscript title on spine   The lot also contains Aridosio commedia del Signor Lorenzino de' Medici. Florence: I Giunti, 1605. 12mo (160 x 88mm). Printer's device at end (light browning). Light blue wrappers. (2)
