DANTE ALIGHIERI (1265-1321) - La Divina Commedia [CON:] Vita di Dante Alighieri. Florence: Fabris, 1840-42. A good copy, complete with the life of Dante by Melchiorre Missirini, of the Commedia illustrated with numerous illustrations drawn largely from the works of Flaxman, Pinelli and Ademollo. The comment is edited by Paolo Costa (1771-1836), poet and scholar of neoclassical orientation, and was appreciated by various scholars including Carlo Carpellini, Scipione Colelli and Giuseppe Arcangeli. 4 volumes, 8vo (235 x 155mm). Chromolithographic frontispiece to the first volume, over 500 woodcut vignettes in the text, pages printed within an engraved frame (light and sporadic spotting). Contemporary half-calf with title and embossed and gilt decorations on spine, marbled edges. Provenance: Pietro Vercelli (ownership inscription). (4)
