DIDEROT, Denis (1713-1784) - Jacques le fataliste et son maitre. Paris: Buisson, an cinquieme de la Republique [1796].   The most important work of Diderot's final years, inspired by Tristram Shandy. It is a a philosophical meta-novel written during the author's stay in the Netherlands in which Diderot makes fun of the novel-form and its rules.   2 parts in one volume, 8vo (197 x 125mm). Certificate of authenticity signed by Buisson on verso of title (some foxing). Contemporary calf, gilt spine (extremities rubbed, bottom edge of spine splitting).
