OROSIO, Paolo (ca. 375-420) - Adversus paganos historiarum libri septem [LEGATO CON:] - TUCIDIDE. De bello Peloponnensium Atheniensiumque libri VIII. Colony: Eucharius Cervicornus, 1526 e 1527.   A volume containing two elegantly printed editions. The first is a 16th-century edition of Orosio's work: an important historical text conceived as a complement to Augustine's "City of God" and which represents the first attempt to describe the history of the world as the history of God who guides humanity. The second work is an edition of the Latin translation of the Greek story of Thucydides by Lorenzo Valla (1406-1457).   2 works in one volume, folio (295 x 190mm). Title within elaborate woodcut border, woodcut headpieces and historiated initials (first work with expertly reinforced title and without final blank; second with title just slightly damaged at the outer margin, some general occasional browning and soiling). 18th-century calf decorated with gilt fillets on covers, gilt spine, blue edges and marbled endpapers (extremities rubbed). Provenance: Jacques Laget (exlibris).
