Anti: 1596.   Second edition (the first is from 1594) of the famous Vita pittorica di Cristo by the Spanish Jesuit Nadal and illustrated by detailed and animated illustrations of the Gospel by the brothers Wierix, J. & A. Collaert and Ch. De Mallery, mostly taken from the drawings by Bernardo Passari and Maarten De Vos.   Folio (298 x 200mm). Engraved title, 4 text leaves and 153 plates from drawings by Martin de Vos and Bernardino Passeri and engraved by the Wierix brothers (slight browning, sporadic stains, heavier on title and first leaves). Contemporary half vellum with gilt title on spine, covers in decorated paper (slight defects). Provenance: Ancient ownership notes erased from the title page.
