They are frequently portrayed in movement according to the Gothic style and are often assigned allegorical and moral meanings in the text. This type of bestiaries were loved and popular in the early Middle Ages, following a tradition that is traced back to the Physiologus of the third century AD, passing through Isidore of Seville and all the medieval variations.   (348 x 236mm). Copy no. 429 of 595. Detailed colour reproduction of the original codex. Leather binding with floral and zoomorphic blindstamped decorations, within plexiglass box. With a volume commentary.
