Rome: Editalia, 2008.   A reproduction of the medical and botanical codex commissioned by Emperor Frederick II from a Sicilian scriptorium in the mid-13th-century. The volume, richly illustrated with over 500 miniatures depicting plants and medical practices, collected much of the medical knowledge of Mediterranean Europe and included among the various writings the herbarium of pseudo-Apuleius and the "Medicinis ex libris feminis et masculinis" of pseudo-Dioscorides.   (180 x 120mm). Copy no. 812 of 999. Detailed colour reproduction of the original codex. Leather binding with dry decorations and metal clasps preserved within a plexiglass case. Withouth the commentary volume.
