Russian Art

Il Ponte Casa d’Aste inaugurates its new Russian Art Department, entrusted to three internationally renowned experts: Maxime Charron and Maroussia Tarassov-Charron, already in charge of the specialized department at the Millon auction house in Paris, together with Mariam Varsimashvili.

The department is dedicated to highlighting and promoting Russian art in all its forms and expressions, from the 17th century to the contemporary era.

Underscoring the historical and symbolic importance of Russian art is, for example, the prestigious Order of the White Eagle ensemble, originally created in 1325 by King Władysław I of Poland and awarded in 1913 by Tsar Nicholas II to General Albert d’Amade. This extraordinary diamond-encrusted set was sold at Millon in Paris in May 2018 for €1.1 million.

In Italy as well, interest in Russian art has achieved significant results. Notably, a 20th-century icon depicting Saint George and the Dragon, featuring a silver and polychrome enamel frame adorned with amethysts, citrine quartz, and garnets. Created in Moscow between 1908 and 1917 by silversmith Pavel Ovchinnikov, and bearing the hallmark of the Imperial Court’s assayer, it was sold by Il Ponte Casa d’Aste for €226,800.

Thanks to a team with extensive experience and expertise, the new department serves as a meeting point for collectors and enthusiasts alike, offering a unique opportunity for the rediscovery, study, and appreciation of valuable Russian objects.

With this new initiative, Il Ponte establishes itself as a leading reference point in Italy for the Russian art market—a field rich in history, value, and artisanal refinement.
