MARTORELLI, Luigi - Storia del clero vaticano dai primi secoli del cristianesimo fino al XVII. Rome: Stamperia Salomoni, 1792.   Historical-religious work in beautiful armorial binding dedicated to the organization of the clergy in the Vatican until the end of the 18th century. The present copy belonged to Romualdo Braschi Onesti (1753-1817), son of Count Girolamo Onesti and Giulia Braschi, sister of Cardinal Giannangelo Braschi, the future Pope. In 1784 he was appointed grand prior of the Order of Malta in Rome by Pius VI and received by the king of Sardinia the decoration of the Order of SS. Maurice and Lazarus.   4to (240 x 180mm). Half-title, coat of arms of Pope Pius VI on title (occasional light foxing, light waterstaining to final leaves). Contemporary calf with the arms of Cardinal Romualdo Braschi Onesti within gilt frame, coat of arms of the Cardinal attached to the Grand Cross of honor and devotion of the Order of Malta, gilt decorations and title on spine, decorated endpapers, red speckled edges (light rubbing and some scuffing). Provenance: Luca conte Giannini Juniore (contemporary ownership inscription on title and stamp in Greek at verso) - modern bookplate on endpaper - illeggible stamp on title.
