PLINIO, Gaio Cecilio Secondo detto PLINIO IL GIOVANE (61-114 d.C) - C. Plinii Secundi Novocomensis oratoris Epistolarum liber primus [-octavus]. [Venezia: Johannes Roscius, ca. 1492 secondo ISTC e BSB] oppure [Venezia: Giovanni Rosso, ca.1500 secondo SBN].   An uncommon early edition of the Epistles of Pliny. There is great debate on the exact dating of the work which appears to be between the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th century. The copy corresponds to the one digitized in BSB (ISTC No.ip00811000) and considered as printed in 1492, but the complete collation corresponds to that in SBN for the copy printed by Giovanni de Rosso in Venice in 1500 (a-n8 o6, A-B8). The digitized copy in BSB ends with o6 and does not contain the final leaves signed A-B8 starting with C. Plinii Secundi Iunioris Liber Illustri um Virorum incipit.   4to (210 x 158mm). Spaces reserved for initials, some with manuscripts letters (without the first blank, some browning, the final two leaves with a small hole in the upper margin and a tear in the inner margin of the final leaf, some soiling and a few gatherings detached). Later boards, title on paper spine label (slightly unstitched). Provenance: ancient annotations on the front endpaper and a drawing on the rear endpaper, few annotations in text.
